Physics P6 and 7

For Physics P6 and 7, we need to explain how electricity is produced and transferred to homes and businesses.

For P6, you need to create a poster showing what happens at each stage of electricity production. Make sure you have also explained what happens in each step.

For P7, you need to make a model of the national grid. We will do this by making a model in class, but you can read about what you're making here.

Chemistry P2, P4, P5

Today we'll be working on different bits of the Chemistry section. Check which ones you need to do and go to the questions below:

P2:
You need to draw a graph showing how the current decreases when the length of wire increases. Use the sample graph and the results below to make your own graph.

P4:

1. You need to name the elements in group 1 and group 7 of the periodic table.
2. You also need to write the equation for sodium and oxygen, chlorine, and water.  
3. Finally, you need to explain how the reactivity of elements changes as you move down a group.

P5:

1. Define the rate of reaction.
2. Name the factors that affect reaction rates (Temperature, concentration, surface area, catalysts)
3. Explain HOW each of the factors makes the reaction happen quicker.

Biology P4

For Biology P4 you need to explain how human activities are affecting the environment. You can do this as leaflets or a poster.
Summarise how the following activities are changing things:

• Deforestation
• Over fishing
• Whaling
• Pollution

Say what each one is, then give a breif summary of the problems it causes. This will meet P4.

Biology P6

Today we're going to complete an assignment on homeostasis, which is how the body keeps certain things at a constant level. Watch this video and then use the links below to complete leaflets about the different topics.

For leaflet 1 (title: Controlling temperature):

1. Explain what homeostasis means:
2. Explain some different ways that the body can stay warm or cool down.

For leaflet 2 (title: Blood sugar levels):

1. Explain how insulin and glucagon control blood sugar levels in the body.
2. What happens when someone has type I diabetes?

Chemistry P7

Today we're going to look at Chemistry P7, which is about how volcanoes are formed. Use the links below to answer the following questions on a poster.

1. How are volcanoes formed?
2. Which gases are released in a volcanic eruption?
3. What are tectonic plates? What do they do?
4. How are mountains formed by tectonic plates?



Make sure you also include a diagram of a volcano.

I was hoping to do a practical today, but couldn't book a room where the gas worked. Try these activities looking at what we've covered so far this year -

• Physics skate park - What types of energy can you see?
• Thingdom - What gets randomly given to offspring when the things reproduce?
• There are lots of good activities on this link, try whatever you like.
• In this game, you have to build a city that saves energy.
• In Pandemic, you play as a disease and have to infect everybody in the world!
• There are also lots of activities here to do with the human body.
• There are also some good activities on the channel 4 site.

Physics/Biology

Today you're going to either work on P9/10 for physics, or P6 for Biology. Physics is below thiss post, Biology is here:
You need to explain three things are that humans do to affect the environment. You will summarise these on a poster in three sections:

• Mining
• Burning fossil fuels
• Acid rain (You can also use this site to talk about landfill instead of one of the others if you prefer)

Make sure you include what they are, how they are caused and what effects they have.
